Gorgi’s House

There is an old mansion house in the back alleys of the central Iranian city of Yazd, which has been home to several generations of a prosperous Georgian family of traders from the Caucasus.

The building is over two hundred years old. The extended family of the Georgians who came to live there, six brothers and two sisters, ended up spreading in the neighbourhood. Both their street and house was then named ‘Gorji’, meaning, simply, Georgian.

The grand house has gone through various upgrades but eventually has become dilapidated. The last elder of the family is Ozra khanom who lives there now, but is worried that the next generation do not desire to live there and it will be lost. She guides us around her inheritance in this report, showing the architectural beauty of the past.
